Who we are

No agency, no tourism board, no names you need to remember. Just locals who have lived here long enough to have opinions and care enough to write them down. We use "we" because that is honest: it is more than one person, and the recommendations are the ones we give each other. We lean fresh, international, and good value, with the healthier choice flagged where there is one. We are not here to be polite about places that have coasted.

How we choose

We only write up a place we would send a friend to. That means no copied lists, no "top 50 restaurants in Amsterdam," and nothing that landed here because a PR firm sent an invite. Nobody pays to be on the site and we do not take free meals in exchange for a write-up. When we rank a shortlist, the order is our own call, with a reason attached - not a Google star average reprinted as if it were judgement. We read the reviews critically; we do not parrot them.

Our two dates, and what they mean

Freshness is the whole point of this site, so we are precise about what we have checked and when. Two different phrases do two different jobs:

Last verified means the facts on the page - address, opening hours, price - were checked on that date, by web or by phone. We've been (or "last visited") means one of us physically went. Those are not the same claim, and we try never to blur them.

Where we recommend a place we rate but have not personally sat down in, we say so plainly: the spot locals point to, worth the look, not yet a personal visit. That is more useful than pretending, and it is the kind of thing a real friend would tell you.

When we get it wrong

Hours change, places move, kitchens slip. When something is out of date or just wrong, tell us and we will fix it - that is the deal that keeps the dates on these pages meaning something. [email protected].
