Best pizza in Amsterdam, right now

Our favourite is Nnea, a Neapolitan place on Bilderdijkstraat in Oud-West - a long corridor with more tables than you would expect, which is part of the charm. Loulou on the Amstel is where we go for a night out, and Pizza Project is the one for very good pizza without the queue.

Last checked - June 2026

We have eaten a lot of pizza in this city, and these are the three we actually keep going back to. Nnea is the one we would send you to first - a guy called Vincenzo Onnembo opened it in 2019 and he is, by any reasonable measure, obsessed with dough.

01Neapolitan / Oud-West

Nnea our favourite

Bilderdijkstraat 92, Oud-West · €€ · dinner only, from 17:45

Proper Neapolitan, and the dough is the star: light, well-fermented, with the right amount of leopard charring on the base. What keeps us coming back is that it is never an off night. Start with the Margherita with bufala or the Oro di Bufala to judge it properly, and only reach for the Capofierro when you are really hungry. One of the rare places whose pizza survives the trip, so it is our delivery order too.

02Neapolitan / Oost, on the Amstel

Loulou for a night out

Weesperzijde 42a, Oost · €€ · evenings, terrace in summer

Flavio takes it seriously enough that he won the Dutch pizza-baking championship in 2024 and runs the only certified pizzaiolo school in the country out the back. But the real draw is the whole evening: a buzzy room by the Amstel with a terrace that is hard to beat in summer. Best eaten in - we have had it delivered and it just is not the same.

03Neapolitan / three locations

Pizza Project no-fuss good

Wilhelminastraat 153, Maasstraat 18, Oostenburgergracht 185 · €€

A small Amsterdam chain that started in 2018 with a couple of friends making pizzas in their own backyard, and now runs three locations. Very good, very solid, and you will almost never wait as long as at Nnea. All three are good, so just pick whichever is closest.

Common questions

Is Nnea worth the wait?

Yes. The Neapolitan dough is exceptional and, more to the point, the same every visit. It is a small, dinner-only room, so the wait is real, but it is the one pizza place we keep going back to.

Do they take reservations?

Book ahead, especially Friday and Saturday. Nnea is dinner-only from 17:45 and fills up; walk-ins can wait a long time on busy nights.

What about delivery?

Nnea is the one to order in - its pizza holds up on the way over better than most. Loulou we would save for eating in. Pizza Project is a reliable order-in too.

A good alternative to Nnea?

Loulou by the Amstel in Oost for a livelier night out, or Pizza Project when you want very good pizza without the queue.
