We won't pretend this is the Rijksmuseum. But it's the place to understand the Amsterdam School, the early-1900s style you'll start noticing everywhere once you've seen it, and it gets you out into a part of West most visitors never reach.
Housed in a striking block of 1920s workers' housing by Michel de Klerk, the building itself is the exhibit. You'll see a restored worker's flat from the period and learn what the Amsterdam School was: the curved brickwork, ironwork and rounded corners that define a lot of the city's early-20th-century buildings. Worth it if you like architecture or design, or want something quieter and a bit off the usual route. Skip it if your time is tight and you haven't done the headline museums yet.
