Best ice cream in Amsterdam, right now

Massimo Gelato is the pick - a De Pijp institution making proper Italian gelato with Dutch milk. Miuz on the Overtoom is the experimental alternative in West. Monte Pelmo in the Jordaan has been doing this since 1957. Last checked - June 2026.

Last checked - June 2026

Three different picks, three different situations. Massimo is classic Italian gelato done right. Miuz plays with unusual flavours and changes the menu often. Monte Pelmo is the old Jordaan standby - no fuss, around 20 flavours, been here longer than any of us.

01Gelato / De Pijp

Massimo Gelato our pick

Van Ostadestraat 147, De Pijp (also Haarlemmerstraat, Jodenbreestraat and Kinkerstraat) · €

Run by Massimo Strologo, who makes proper Italian gelato using Dutch milk from a farm in North Holland, and fresh, seasonal ingredients where possible. The pistachio and the stracciatella are the benchmarks - both are excellent. The queues at the Van Ostadestraat shop on a warm afternoon are real but move fast. A De Pijp institution at this point, and still earning it.

03Gelato / Jordaan

Monte Pelmo Jordaan classic

2e Anjeliersdwarsstraat 17, Jordaan · €

Italian gelato in the Jordaan since 1957. Around 20 homemade flavours, rotating with the season, plus non-dairy sorbets. No gimmicks - the quality is consistent, the staff are cheerful, and the queue on warm days is short and moves fast. If you are already in the Jordaan and want something cold, this is the obvious stop.
